Along with the renovation at our school, there are a handful of new security features to make the school a safer place. Many parents must be wondering about safety and how their children will be safe while the construction is taking place especially since construction is going on during the school hours. Well, Mrs. McCarthy, Ms. Pazornik and the construction crew have thought of everything! They will have walls and a fence to act as barriers between the construction sites and the classrooms. This will assure safety and make sure no learning will be disturbed or affected.
Since safety issues are becoming more and more serious, Deep Run Elementary School is going to continue to keep record of who comes in and who goes out of our school. Now, a visitor has to be buzzed in to Deep Run. In the future, our school will have a vestibule in the front of the school. A vestibule is a small place enclosed by two pairs of doors. You need a swipe card (every teacher will have one) to get into the second pair of doors. If you don’t have a swipe card, the only way to get in is to go to the office (located in between the doors) and wait to be let into the building.
In the new addition, there will be stairwells to allow the kids to go up to the second floor. Also for any disabled children, there will be an elevator. In the back of the school, they will add two fire exits, one staircase and one ramp. As you can see, Howard County is trying very hard to keep the kids and staff as safe as possible. These various safety features will help prevent dangerous situations taking place.
